ESA Pro exists because a Phase I ESA is a liability instrument before it's a deliverable. Every product decision -- what routes to human review, what renders as a data gap instead of a guess, what a checklist won't let you skip -- follows from that.
Why this exists
Phase I ESAs are governed by ASTM E1527-21 and the AAI Rule (40 CFR Part 312) precisely because the report an Environmental Professional signs can become the evidence a liability defense stands or falls on. A tool that drafts faster but reasons less carefully doesn't help that EP -- it hands them a fluent document they now have to re-verify line by line, which is slower than not using it at all.
ESA Pro is built to the opposite bias: an unsupported sentence is worse than no sentence. That shapes almost every screen -- the evidence ledger, the Review Queue, the Considered & Excluded log, the provenance table that records sources returning nothing. None of it is decoration on top of a report generator. It's the actual architecture.
